Rhodium is a precious metal similar to platinum. It is a cool gray color and very brilliant metal. It also prevents silver from tarnishing with time.
We use it in jewellery as a plating process to add a very thin coat of rhodium over silver or gold.
⎨ Rhodium on sterling silver⎬
Sterling silver is an alloy with 92.5% of fine silver in it. Its color is a warm gray color and can tarnish when exposed to air. It is a normal phenomenon when exposed to oxygen.
Most of the jewellery at MCDécarie is already oxidised, which gives the black contrast and antique look. Each item comes with caring instruction and polishing pad to maintain the finish over time.
If you prefer a white and ultra brilliant finish rhodium plating is just for you! Your jewellery will have a long lasting finish and will not tarnish.
I strongly recommend it for white chains or other jewellery if you don’t like the black oxidation.
There is no visible difference between rhodium-plated silver and rhodium plated white gold.
⎨ Rhodium on white gold⎬
White gold is an alloy made of pure yellow gold mixed with white metal, such as nickel, to give it its “white” color. White gold isn’t actually white, but a very warm gray with a little yellowish tone. That is why we plated it with rhodium; the white gold gets a cool gray color and becomes even more brilliant.
All white gold jewellery at MCDécarie comes plated with rhodium with no extra charges.
Rhodium will be applied on a very thin coat on silver or gold by electro-chemical deposition. It is possible that the thin layer of rhodium fade off with time, but since if it almost the same color under you won’t see it much. It can be re-plated after a few years if needed.

Sterling silver can go yellow or tarnish with time, it is a normal phenomenon when exposed to air. The best way to maintain your jewels clean is to wear them! It will protect their shine and some daily precautions will keep them beautiful and clean longer! Since most of my sterling silver jewellery is already oxidised you shouldn’t need to do anything special to keep them the way they are.

Every item is delivered in a gift pouch or jewelry box. I do not include invoice since they can be printed from your account, except for France and Germany.
Gift package: you can add a note or message with the package, just mention it with the order.
It is possible to return an item for a size adjustment. You don’t need to communicate with me before you return it, but you must include the following information with the return: ORDER NUMBER, NEW SIZE and RETURN ADDRESS.
Once I receive the package I will send a separate invoice for shipping and size adjustment fee. The fee will vary from 0 to 25% of the item value, because in some case I need to completely re-do the item.
